How to enjoy Forest Bathing in Spring

Updated: Sep 9

Spring is a season of renewal. The forest awakens from its winter slumber, bursting into vibrant life with blossoms, fresh leaves, and the joyful songs of birds. It is one of the most magical times to immerse yourself in Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku)—a gentle, mindful way of connecting with nature.

Whether you are new to Forest Bathing or returning to the practice, here are some ways to make the most of your springtime forest experience.

✅ Notice the First Signs of Life

In spring, every small detail feels alive with possibility. Look closely at the tender green shoots pushing through the soil, the unfolding of new leaves, or the blossoms gently opening to the sun. Take a slow walk and see if you can spot nature’s delicate transitions.

✅ Breathe in the Fragrance of Blossoms

Spring air is full of subtle perfumes ! Wattle & wildflowers in bloom. Pause for a moment, close your eyes, and simply breathe. Notice how each fragrance stirs a memory or feeling. Scents are deeply connected to our emotions and can bring calmness or joy.

✅ Listen to the Birdsong

Many birds become especially active in spring, calling for mates or protecting their nests. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and let the chorus surround you. Each call is a reminder of the interconnected web of life happening around us.

✅ Feel the Warmth of the Sun

After the cool winter, the warmth of spring sunshine feels especially nurturing. Sit on a rock, a log, or soft grass, and let the sun gently soak into your skin. Notice how your body relaxes as you welcome this warmth. How do you feel when you walk through Komorebi..... ?

✅ Celebrate with a Small Ritual

At the end of your walk, you might enjoy bringing a simple spring ritual - such as sipping tea beneath a blossoming tree, journaling your reflections, or sharing gratitude aloud. These moments help to anchor your Forest Bathing experience in your heart. You can also try Japanese Haiku (short poem).

Why Spring is Special for Forest Bathing

Spring reminds us of beginnings, growth, and beauty. The forest in spring teaches us about resilience - how life returns, blossoms, and thrives after rest. When we walk slowly and with awareness, we invite these qualities into our own lives !

So, this spring, step into the forest. Let yourself be embraced by blossoms, birdsong, and sunshine. And remember: Forest Bathing is not about reaching a destination, but about simply being present in the moment.

Happy Forest Bathing in Spring !!
