Have you ever wondered why time in the forest feels so deeply restorative?
It’s not just a feeling. Scientific research shows that forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku) has measurable effects on both the nervous system and overall health.

One of the key ways forest bathing supports well-being is through the regulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), the system responsible for stress responses, heart rate, digestion, sleep and recovery.

Field studies have shown that time spent in forest environments helps shift the body out of “fight-or-flight” mode, reducing stress and tension while activating the body’s natural rest-and-digest response. This allows the nervous system to slow down, supporting deep relaxation and restoration.

This shift toward a calm, balanced nervous state helps explain why participants report feeling less stressed, more centred and more present after forest bathing.

Why the Blue Mountains?
With its ancient forests, dramatic cliffs and whispering winds, the Blue Mountains provide an ideal environment for forest bathing. This retreat invites you to slow down, reconnect with your senses and let nature gently guide your body back into balance.
